General
What is LiveData by WAL?
LiveData is a browser-based overlay engine for live broadcast production. It lets you create data-driven graphics — leaderboards, timelines, scoreboards, lower thirds, tickers, name cards, logo bugs, data boards, live polls, social comments, and Lottie animations — that update live on air. Your overlay is served as a transparent browser source URL you drop into OBS, vMix, or H2R Graphics.
Who is it built for?
LiveData is built for esports production teams, sports broadcasters, live event coordinators, and any production house that needs real-time data displayed on screen. It's used with OBS Studio, vMix, H2R Graphics, and Streamlabs.
Do I need technical skills to use it?
No coding required. If you can use a spreadsheet and have used OBS before, you can use LiveData. The hardest part is adding a browser source in your broadcast software — and that's covered in our
How It Works guide.
Overlays & Data
What is a browser source?
A browser source is a feature in OBS Studio, vMix, and H2R Graphics that renders a web page as a video layer in your broadcast. Because it runs a real browser engine, it supports animations, transparent backgrounds, and live-updating data. LiveData overlays are designed specifically to be used this way.
What overlay types are available?
LiveData currently has 11 overlay types:
- Leaderboard — multi-column standings with team logos, fed from Google Sheets or JSON
- Timeline — event stage or match progress tracker with image-based slots
- Lower Third — animated name plates with 4 premium templates and zone control
- Ticker — scrolling text banner with configurable speed and live data source
- Name Card — presenter or player card with headshot, title, and organisation
- Logo Bug — persistent corner watermark or sponsor logo
- Data Board — live stat panels driven from Google Sheets
- Scoreboard — head-to-head score display with team logos
- After Effect — Lottie JSON animation playback for motion graphics (beta)
- Social Comments — push live viewer comments on screen from a manual queue, Google Sheet Q&A bank, or YouTube Live Chat
- Live Poll — real-time audience polls with live vote bar charts; audience votes from their phone via a shareable URL or QR code
Your plan determines which types are available to you.
How often does data refresh on air?
Most overlays poll for new data every 5–10 seconds. Live Poll and Social Comment overlays poll every 2 seconds so vote counts and viewer comments appear on screen almost instantly. For Google Sheets-connected overlays, data is fetched fresh from the sheet on each poll. For JSON-entered data, changes go live as soon as you save in the editor.
Can I use Google Sheets as a data source?
Yes. Paste your Google Sheets URL (with view access enabled) into the import field. LiveData fetches the data automatically and refreshes it on the polling interval. Your data team can update the sheet during a live broadcast and the overlay will update on screen within seconds.
Does the overlay background have to be transparent?
By default, overlays render with a transparent background so they composite cleanly over your video in OBS or vMix. You can add a background colour in the Style settings if you need a solid or semi-transparent backing — useful for lower thirds or leaderboard panels.
Can I use my own fonts or logos?
You can upload image assets (team logos, icons) to your workspace's asset library and use them in overlay columns. Custom web fonts are not yet directly supported, but you can use any system-safe font in the style settings.
Social Comments
How does the Social Comment overlay work?
You add a Social Comment layer in your workspace and open the editor. From there you can push any comment to air with one click — it appears on screen with an animation, stays for the configured duration, then automatically hides. The editor shows a live queue so you can line up multiple comments in advance.
Can I pull comments from YouTube Live Chat?
Yes. Paste your YouTube Live stream URL into the YouTube tab of the Social Comment editor. LiveData will look up the live chat ID for that stream. You can then click Fetch Latest to pull the newest messages, preview them in the editor, and push any message to air with one click. You can also enable Auto-Approve to have new messages added to the queue automatically.
Can I use a Google Sheet as a Q&A source?
Yes. Connect a Google Form response sheet (or any public sheet) as the source for the Sheet tab. Map the Author, Comment/Question, and optional Duration columns. LiveData loads all rows — you can browse them and push any question to air. This is ideal for live Q&A sessions where audience questions come in via a Google Form before or during the show.
What are the Social Comment templates?
There are 4 built-in templates:
- Classic — accent sidebar bar with author name and comment text
- Bubble — speech-bubble card with avatar, border accent, and tail pointer
- Split — bold left panel in the accent colour containing the author; comment text on the right
- Minimal — thin dot-ruled strip, very clean and minimal footprint
All templates support slide-up, slide-left, and fade animations.
Can each comment have a different on-screen duration?
Yes. When you queue a comment (manually, from a sheet, or from YouTube), you can set a custom duration in seconds for that entry. If no custom duration is set, the comment uses the layer's default duration. This lets Q&A answers with long text stay on screen longer than short shoutouts.
Live Poll
How does the Live Poll overlay work?
Create a Live Poll layer, enter your question and up to 4 answer options, then click Open Poll in the editor. Audience members vote from their phones via a unique voting URL (or QR code you can display on screen). The overlay updates every 2 seconds with live vote counts shown as animated bar charts — your viewers at home see the results building in real time.
How does the audience vote?
Each Live Poll layer gets a unique public voting URL. Share it verbally, display it as a graphic, or show the built-in QR code. Audience members open it on any phone or device — no app, no account, no login required. They tap their choice and see a confirmation with live results straight away. One vote per device is enforced automatically.
Can I run multiple poll rounds in one session?
Yes. After each round, click Reset Poll to clear all votes and generate a fresh session, then Open Poll again. Votes from the previous round are wiped so your results are always clean. You can also click Close Poll to lock voting without resetting — useful for showing final results before moving on.
What templates are available for Live Poll?
There are 2 display templates:
- Bars — large animated fill bars with a LIVE header banner, designed for full-screen impact
- Minimal — compact horizontal bar rows that take up less screen space, ideal for side-panels or smaller inserts
Both templates auto-hide the widget when the poll is in the waiting state (not yet opened).
Team & Workspace
Can I add team members to my workspace?
Yes, on the Starter plan and above. Go to Account → Team Members and send an email invite. The invitee receives a link, sets a password, and joins your workspace. They can view and edit layers but the workspace belongs to you as the owner.
What can invited members do?
Invited members can access and edit all layers in your workspace. They cannot manage billing, invite other members, or change workspace settings — those actions are owner-only.
Can I have multiple workspaces?
Each account has one workspace. If you need separate workspaces (e.g. for different clients or events), you'd need separate accounts. Contact us at
team@wearelive.ng if you need a multi-workspace setup.
Plans & Billing
What happens when my trial ends?
Your account reverts to the Free plan. Your layers and data are preserved — you just lose access to features above the Free plan limit (e.g. extra layers, team seats). You can upgrade at any time from your Account page.
Can I use the same email to restart a trial?
No. Trials are one per email and per workspace. Creating duplicate accounts to re-use trials is a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in account termination.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept card payments (Visa, Mastercard) and bank transfers via Paystack and Flutterwave. All payments are in Nigerian Naira (₦). Both gateways support Nigerian bank cards and bank transfers.
Do you offer refunds?
Payments are non-refundable. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 7 days at
team@wearelive.ng and we'll review your case.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Contact us at
team@wearelive.ng to cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period — we don't cut off access mid-month.
Technical
What resolution should I set the browser source to?
Match the browser source dimensions to your broadcast output resolution. For HD broadcasts: 1920 × 1080. For 4K: 3840 × 2160. The overlay is designed to fill the full canvas and composite with the video beneath it.
Will the overlay URL ever change?
No. Each layer has a permanent URL based on its slug. Once you've added it to OBS or vMix, you never need to update it — just keep editing your data in LiveData and the overlay updates on its own.
Does LiveData work without an internet connection?
No. LiveData is a cloud-hosted service. Both the editor and the overlay URL require an internet connection. The overlay browser source in OBS also needs internet access to poll for data updates.
